Manufacturers and suppliers now centralize and share – permission-based – their raw material chemical information
PORTSMOUTH, NH January 10, 2009 – Actio Corporation, the leading provider of chemical management software, announced today the official launch of its SaaS product, Material Disclosure. Material Disclosure is delivered as SaaS (Software as a Service) and provides a secure, central repository for storing and disseminating raw material chemical information requested by manufacturers and regulatory stakeholders.
Manufacturers can now easily identify the chemical components that constitute their raw materials. Manufacturers are moving towards requiring this information prior to evaluating and purchasing material. Acquiring this information up front mitigates risk around environmental compliance around global regulations such as REACH, RoHS and WEEE.
Even trace amounts of certain chemicals can have a substantial impact on a product’s use and market accessibility. For manufacturers currently using Actio GatekeeperTM and MSDSVaultTM, Material Disclosure will integrate with these modules to manage the request for full-disclosure information and will track the completion of the requested information while automatically managing the regulatory requirements for the material.
Manufacturers can now automate the process of gathering substance and chemical data from a global supply chain. Manufacturers create a custom form to collect the data particular to their products and their regional legislation and standards. The forms reach out to suppliers and the collected data is automatically housed in a secure, central repository. There is an immediate flagging of regulation issues based on substances data living in the repository.
The benefits to the suppliers, also, are numerous and are right on the bottom line. Raw chemical information is often requested by manufacturers and other stakeholders for global regulatory compliance. Material Disclosure empowers suppliers to enter complete chemical composition information into a product record. This information can then be accessed, at the supplier’s discretion, by manufacturers looking to evaluate or purchase the raw material. Instead of responding to hundreds of requests per month, a supplier has a single standardized product record that can be instantly tailored to fit the requests of a particular manufacturer. Suppliers can enter the information one time, cutting down substantially on duplicate efforts, crossed messages, and margins for error.
“The number of product recalls over the past 6 months illustrates the difficulty large enterprises are having with managing the chemical footprint of their supply chain. Not only are recalls expensive, they can permanently damage a brand’s reputation,” said Russell McCann, Actio’s President and CEO. “Material Disclosure and Actio chemical management solutions track and manage the chemical supply chain from a raw material request to the final finished product, significantly reducing a company’s chemical liability.”
“Global compliance – including REACH, RoHS, WEEE and many other directives – has been a challenge for manufacturing companies,” said McCann, speaking from Actio Headquarters north of Boston, MA. “Actio created Material Disclosure to connect substance and changeable regulatory information, and to facilitate the exchange of information in a broadening, global supply chain network.”
