Kal Kawar, CIH, PE provides expertise on risk management in the manufacturing supply chain

PORTSMOUTH, NH May 15, 2009 – Actio Corporation, the leading provider of chemical management software, today announced that Kal Kawar, industry veteran and Actio co-founder, will provide expertise at the AIHCE conference in Toronto this year.  Kawar brings to the conference over three decades of experience as a chemical watchdog through an era of rapid changes in global environmental regulation.

Kawar’s 30 years of expertise focuses on Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), chemical tracking and auditing protocol in today’s environmentally regulated world.  Kawar is a chemical industry veteran in Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S).  He is a Professional Engineer in chemical engineering (PE) and a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Kawar’s career began at IBM in the era when OSHA and EPA regulations began to take a firmer hold on manufacturing.  Kawar now speaks to national audiences and consults with industry leaders as well as media persons across the country.  At this year’s AIHCE event, Kawar will present methods today’s manufacturers and their global supply chains use to cope with regulatory challenges inherent to REACH, RoHS, and WEEE.  He will focus on solving risk management in global supply chains.

“There is an acute need in the industry for harvesting secure, on-demand, permissions-based, up-to-date chemical data – spanning the entire supply chain,” said Kawar, speaking from Actio’s Chicago office.  “One obvious way to mitigate risk is to store, update and retrieve chemical data from a central, secure, data repository.

“Global compliance has taken center stage in the past decade, with REACH, RoHS, WEEE, as well as myriad local regulatory directives,” said Kawar.  “In fact, we founded Actio Corporation specifically to address risk management challenges inherent in environmental regulation.  We saw early on that risk management in manufacturing, to a huge degree, is about to managing substances used in the manufacturing process,” he said.

“Since the early days of EPA standards and OSHA’s influence – at IBM – my colleagues and I have been working on this solution to chemical management,” Kawar said.  “Actio is the end result.  It’s the most elegant, tested, and successful chemical management system for the enterprise.”

Actio’s secure, automated software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution creates a single source of accurate substance data – as well as provides a collaborative infrastructure for suppliers, internal stakeholders and customers – so companies and their supply chains can quickly adapt and react to ever-changing global market conditions and compliance mandates.  Actio links seamlessly with existing ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.

Kawar’s presentation at AIHce will focus on managing risk in the era of the global supply chain, and on solutions in today’s environment of compliance challenges.
