Actio Corporation signs Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change

BOSTON, MA October 7, 2009 - Actio Corporation, leading provider of SaaS solutions for supply chain materials information management and environmental compliance, today signed the Copenhagen Communique.

The Copenhagen Communique is a short statement signed by international businesses such as SAP, Barclays, Cisco, Kodak, Shell, Coca Cola and now Actio.

A complete list of signatories can be found on the official site, www.copenhagencommunique.com.

The initiative expects to culminate in closure of an international climate deal in Copenhagen in December, 2009.  The document draws on climate policy coming from the international business community over the past two years.  It sets out a business case for an effective UN climate framework.

The point of the effort is: if 1000 international business leaders can agree and sign a document for climate change, then 1000 international political leaders can agree and sign a document for climate change.

“It’s time to take a proactive approach to responsible, efficient business practices,” said Russ McCann, Actio’s President and CEO.  “Global warming is a unique challenge in today’s modern, complex, global manufacturing processes.  Actio has spent the last 10 years developing a software platform to analyze and track the chemical footprint of manufactured products. Corporate sustainability goals demand we know the implications – including emissions – of manufacturing, supply chains, and general business operations.

“Our mission with Actio,” said McCann, “is to bring environmental regulatory software to the manufacturing industry, software that answers the question, ‘What's in your product?'  Actio proudly stands behind the Copenhagen Communique. The initiative is another strong step, taken by forward-thinking businesses, toward corporate responsibility and transitioning to a low-carbon, low-SVHC, low-VOC global economy.”

“Actio, of course, signed the Copenhagen Communique as soon as we heard about it,” said Kathleen Hurley, Director of Corporate Communications at Actio.  “Businesses are individual entities that make up a larger community – most of us want to participate in a cleaner, greener community.”

The Copenhagen Communique is an initiative of The Prince of Wales's Corporate Leaders' Group on Climate Change (CLG) which is run by The University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership.  The global media launch of the Communique with its initial 500+ signatures took place on Tuesday 22nd September 2009 in New York.  The Communique was handed to Mr. Ban Ki-moon (Secretary-General of the United Nations) at the UN Climate Summit lunch.

The Copenhagen Communique accepts signatures from businesses worldwide who support a transition to a low-carbon, emission-controlled global economy.
