Kal Kawar, PE, CIH and chemical industry veteran, provides expertise on GHS MSDS creation and SVHCs
PORTSMOUTH, NH January 8, 2008 – Actio Corporation, the leading provider of chemical management software, announced today that Kal Kawar, industry veteran and Actio co-Founder, will provide expertise at the AIHCE conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 2, 2008. For abstract details please go to: http://www.aiha.org/abs08/08abindex.htm. Kawar will bring over three decades of experience as a chemical watchdog through an era of rapid changes in global environmental regulation.
Kawar, a chemical industry veteran in Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), is a Professional Engineer in chemical engineering (PE) and a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Kawar’s career began at IBM, in the era when OSHA and EPA regulations began to take a firmer hold on manufacturing. Kawar now speaks and consults with industry leaders and media persons across the country.
“The landscape has changed in the past 30 years,” said Kawar, speaking from Actio’s Chicago office. “Global compliance – including REACH, RoHS and many other directives – has taken center stage. We are now talking about a Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) where the downstream user provides input into the uses of a product, and that input has to be incorporated into the extended SDS. Software modules are so sophisticated today they can leverage substance data stored in a relational database to solve regulatory challenges. We are talking about SaaS software solving these problems on a global, enterprise level.
“We created Actio Corporation specifically to address the challenges posed by more stringent regulations,” said Kawar. “Ten years ago, from inside the industry, it was easy to see the need for a software solution that could leverage the data contained in raw material MSDSs. Substance information contained on the MSDS provides the backbone of a chemical management system. The experience derived from the past ten years has enabled Actio to be in the forefront of substance volume tracking, managing substance information for compliance, and creation of the extended SDS under REACH.”
Kawar’s presentation will also address the tools needed to respond rapidly to new global environmental regulation. Kawar will speak to specific options for regulatory reaction, for example, SaaS software to manage materials in a manufacturing lifecycle and throughout an international supply chain. Kawar is expected to point out that Actio Corporation provides a secure, permissions-based, automated solution to supply chain chemical management and regulatory challenges.
