Kal Kawar, PE, CIH and chemical industry veteran, provides expertise on GHS MSDS creation and SVHCs

Kawar, a chemical industry veteran in Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), is a Professional Engineer in chemical engineering (PE) and a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Kawar’s career began at IBM, in the era when OSHA and EPA regulations began to take a firmer hold on manufacturing. Kawar now speaks and consults with industry leaders and media persons across the country.

“The landscape has changed in the past 30 years,” said Kawar, speaking from Actio’s Chicago office. “Global compliance – including REACH, RoHS and many other directives – has taken center stage. We are now talking about a Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) where the downstream user provides input into the uses of a product, and that input has to be incorporated into the extended SDS.
