Actio announces LIMS and bar coding functionality in chemical tracking and regulatory reporting software

PORTSMOUTH, NH January 1, 2008 – Actio Corporation, the leading provider of software for chemical management, today announced its new version of Actio RegulatorTM.  The new version features advanced LIMS support, bar coding and labeling.

As the name suggests, Actio Regulator tracks the usage of chemicals or substances during their lifecycle in a manufacturing or research facility.  Regulator uses standardized bar coding techniques to generate unique labels for tracking inventory as it moves through a facility, from receipt to usage.  Regulator reduces risk and streamlines compliance by automatically generating an audit trail of a chemical or substance as it moves through the manufacturing or research process. Reports for local, state and federal regulations can be generated on demand for compliance.

“The new Regulator with LIMS functionality enables research facilities and laboratory environments to track the receipt and distribution of research chemicals as they move from lab bench to lab bench,” said Kal Kawar, EP, CIH, 30-year EH&S industry veteran, and co-Founder of Actio Corporation. “Automating the process provides an audit trail for FDA compliance in pharmaceutical applications and provides oversight of all chemicals being used at a particular location, from the facility level down to the lab bench.”

Regulator solves a major problem in the laboratory by tracking chemicals that have been purchased by principal investigators using P-cards (privilege cards). While P-cards enable the researcher to get the chemical quickly, this bypasses the normal purchasing channel and creates an additional compliance risk for the company. Regulator alleviates this risk by enabling the quick entry and bar coding of the chemical upon receipt. Once entered, Regulator tracks the movement of the chemical until it is ultimately consumed or disposed of.

For compliance reporting purposes, Regulator has a sophisticated unit-of-conversion engine that automatically converts metric, imperial units and UC customary units to a single unit of measure.  This single unit of measure can be rolled up to determine the entire quantity of a particular chemical within a facility. This quantity is critical in a manufacturing environment where, if the quantity crosses a particular weight threshold, it may be necessary to report that chemical to authorities.

Regulator integrates with all major ERP systems including SAP and Oracle. The application is delivered as Software as a Service and is available immediately.
